Being cautious on the first day at Newmarket and who knows how some of these horses have wintered. Wish I was there round the paddock today but guess will have to wait until Thursday and Dave has a hospital appointment this afternoon so will be catching up on the results when we get home.
Playing 4 of the seven races starting with the 1.15 where I’m taking on the odds on Godolphin favourite.
Usually Charlie Appleby comes to this meeting all guns blazing after a fabulous Meydan but this year they have had quite a few of their team not running to the best of their ability and not prepared to take the chance on the favourite without seeing him. Therefore going with 2 x against the field EW.
1.15 – Wield 9/1 EW & Galba 17/2 EW
Richard Hannon seems to have his horses in top form and wouldn’t be surprised if he picks up a few early winners today and Oisin Murphy will have a few top rides under his belt and Wield is poised to improve on his run last year.
In the 2.25 I might be totally wrong here but I’m not sure Talk Of New York will win today. Coming back down to 7f looks just what he is crying out for but I think he may need just the one more race to come out on top so therefore I am going to go the value and back the stable companion Maximised who also looks as though 7f will suit him better going up in trip.
2.25 – Maximised 5/1 EW
3.35 – Regal Envoy 9/2 EW
(He won this race for me last year. Trainer/Jockey comby a big positive
)
4.45 – Great Chieftain – 5/2 WIN and Christian David 14/1 EW
I backed Great Chieftain in the Cambridgeshire where he was 7th (just out of the money
) and the booking of William Buick looks enticing.
Christian David has had a run in the Lincoln (9th) Hoping this will be the lucky last. ![]()
Bit rushed today because of Dave’s hospital appointment but of course health & family always come first. ![]()
Fingers well and truly crossed today but whatever happens by the end of the day we will be a little wiser as to who has their horses up and ready. Love the puzzles just hope I have one or two wins/places today.
Best of luck Nick I know you might be having a small play today but the card looks tricky with the odds on horses sucking up all the value. Will the horses that have run in Meydan have the advantage? Love this time of the year..bring it on.
