The original Midyan finished third in the Guineas as well. He was a very tough and consistent horse (Timeform rating 124) and went on to sire Group One winners Alhijaz and Cheers Hong Kong, as well as Beauchamp Hero, who landed both the Hardwicke Stakes and Princess of Wales’s Stakes in 1995.
Yesterday’s winner, Erdenali, was being raved about by Anthony “Enzo” Ennis on SSR all day, so I watched the replay and have to say that I was very impressed. Of course, it’s entirely possible that he beat nothing (it was a newcomers’ race, so there was no form available) but Erdenali won extremely easily and would surely get a P if he were rated by Timeform. He really could be anything. The replay is available here:
