My ex worked in China for a while. He loved the place, said it was nothing like he expected. Ok so he was working in affluent areas and presumably only saw what they wanted him to see, but he did take that into account. Our local university has close links with China and my grandson was going on a school trip to China before covid struck. I don’t worry about any of my family going there unlike America; people I know who want to visit family there don’t go whenever Trump is in power. I think the Chinese are just laughing at the rest of the world. They’re absolutely brilliant when it comes to soft power. Just listening to the news now and we have a situation in which no one believes a word that comes out of the POTUS’s mouth ( assuming that what he’s saying is even remotely coherent, which it usually isn’t).
