If he hired a tax accountant to do his taxes (which if you are setting up a company as an aside to your main regular job of being a TV reporter/analyst you probably should, given the minefield that tax is at the best of times) then it would appear that something has gone wrong and I have a bit of sympathy for him.

However, if he didn’t hire an accountant then he is a lot more of the idiot that he often portrays on screen than I thought. I have to admit that I am a fan of his (I also like Marmite…) as he is much more likely to press jockeys/trainers on subject matters and you do tend to see expressions ranging from amusing resignation through to mild irritation on their faces when he approaches them to grab a quick interview. I do fully conceed that he is best served in relatively small doses though.

It is interesting that there have now been three quite high profile (to varying degrees) cases of people in racing falling afoul of the HMRC…..might this generate more scrutiny from them into more people in racing that are involved in or have set up their owm companies linked to the sport?

Some might just want to be checking in with their own tax accountant to see exactly what they are up to and whether their taxes are being paid correctly……..just a thought.
