French raiders have tasted much success in recent renewals of the Sun Chariot Stakes (Newmarket 4.00) which included last years winner Esotorique. This year they have two contenders worth noting in Volta and the selection Erveyda.
Volta landed this year’s Prix Sandringham and has not been disgraced since being placed in the Prix Diane and Prix Rothschild eleven days ago. She seems to be more versatile on ground softer than good and might struggle on this quicker surface.
I would like to think Erveyda can bounce back on this quicker surface. Last years Coronation Stakes winner has not come to hand as expected this season with her best run coming in the Marois behind Ribchester.
Even though she was staying on in the Marois, the ground probably found her out and she finished back in third one pace. Christophe Lemaire takes the ride for the first time and I think if she is spot on for this she wins.
Ballydoyle’s Alice Springs probably deserves to be at the head of the market after her impressive win in the Matron Stakes at Leopardstown three weeks ago. She dominated a good field that day by four lengths. She has already added this years Falmouth Stakes to her resume and is the one they all have to beat.
Alice Springs may be the best filly in the race on her day, but I feel confident Lemaire can get a good tune out of Erveyda this time around.
ERVEYDA : 2pt Win @ 7/2 BOG
