Well done Steve at last the worm has turned and your Ruler of the World obliged for you at a very nice 25/1 ante post and what was even better you had the 3rd horse home too, leaving me the meat in the sandwich with my each way Libertarian, who I never saw as I was so worried about Dawn Approach fearing that he may have sustained an injury.

Just catching up on all the news and videos now as have just got home and fingers crossed after a good rest he will be back in the winners enclosure, but Dr’s Orders for him and no more venturing past the 1m marker. Sad to see him lose his unbeaten record but Sheik Mo said jump so he did, please let him be ok.

Will watch out for your future tipping Steve but as I said I don’t go into the Big Race threads unless I have something I feel particularly strongly about and then you have trouble shutting me up   it takes some nerve to put your money down at such an early stage and glad it worked out for you so well today.

Steve C..very well done with your winner and 3rd place today, was cheering him home in my local bookies and getting some strange looks from those who knew I had backed Dawn Approach and Libertarian. But a really well deserved win at a great AP price, you must be on cloud 9 tonight and rightly so, great tipping.

Was so worried about Dawn Approach in the race that I didn’t even know who the place horses were for quite a while and had an awful feeling that something had gone amiss, just about to catch up with all the news as I have just got home but hopefully all will be well. My thoughts went back to Horatio Nelson and his tragic Derby and I was so worried for him, let’s hope he has a good rest now and comes back to win the Sussex. Knew DA had lost the race as soon as I saw him throwing his head around and not settling up the hill, he used up so much energy and Kevin Manning did exactly the right thing in firstly letting him have his lead and then easing him down to finish almost last when all his energy was spent, a sad sight to see.

Ruler of the World was amazing and a very well deserved winner of The Derby and an exciting battle for the places behind him.

Sometimes it’s really hard to keep tabs on everyone’s choices and tips and I guess the later posts get picked up on.
There are some great tipsters and form pundits here on TRF and perhaps at the end of each Big Race Discussion thread those who highlighted the winner should have a post so that we can congratulate as appropriate, bit like Bob Rolf’s Roll of Honour and you could look back at the end of the year to see who tipped the most big race winners. :)
I get mad keen on certain horses but don’t post for all the big races only those that I have a strong feel about, not always going to be right it’s a game of chance, but I like to see people beating the bookie and it’s worthy of a celebration just for that.

Stilvi I hope your choices come home this afternoon, your thoughts on the Oaks worked out really well and The Lark ran a great race. Steve I’m going to be cheering Ruler of the World/Galileo Rock for you and Mars for Nathan. Whoever wins and of course deep down I do hope its Dawn Approach lets just celebrate and there are always clues to future races to watch out for so losers can turn into winners.
    Always the optimist me.. :D

I think Talent has been a bit overlooked for this. Although she’s apparently Becketts second string she won the Pretty Polly in decent style over 1m2f, and looks pretty genuine. Secret Gesture may be the more flashy fancied runner but at 14/1 I’d be willing to side with Talent.

Would like to say really well done Rich, great tipping and hope you had a really nice bet on the filly your reasoning was 100 per cent spot on and she was the better filly on the day and don’t think we’ve seen the best of Talent yet. She has entries in the Ribblesdale and the Irish Oaks along with her stable companion and as she seems to get better with every race I’m looking forward to seeing her in action again.
Well done, and thank you to everyone for their good wishes & kind words earlier
which I happily share with Rich.

Seconded GA he’s stamping his mark on all his progeny.
Thought Talent very much in the style of Dawn Approach in the way she tackled her race today, don’t think we have seen the best of her yet.
    Love him to bits.

Nathan this is a little poem about a day at Newmarket in 1996 when my racing friend and I backed a 20/1 winner who beat Singspiel at the July Course. The horse was Posidonas and a certain racing pundit was standing in front of us not too pleased by the result and our reaction, so much so that he left the Races to go and play Cricket and we heard it reported in the news that evening that he had broken his finger.

    It goes like this:

When Julian failed to bowl a maiden over

It happened down at Newmarket a memory that will linger –
You’ve guessed it, yes it was that day when Julian broke his finger.

He blamed it on two women who had backed a high priced nag,
Which Julian would have only have described to be The Rag.
The horse..a well bred colt by the champion Slip Anchor
Obliged at 20 pounds to one
And Julian thought you w….. (little rascal)

For Jules had backed the favourite who’d run a rotten race,
But he clutched his form book bravely – as the tears ran down his face
Then wifey came up to the stands with fingers in her ear
And what she said to Julian we caused to overhear

‘Those women backed the winner – and their screaming is obscene’
‘let’s go Jules – I hear they’re playing Cricket on the Green

Several hours later it was Julian who was yelling
As he held his little pinky as the nurse bandaged the swelling!
And wifey once again had both her fingers in her ears
It really wasn’t Julian’s day – BUT IT WAS THE BEST WE’D HAD IN YEARS

    and still having them Nathan
I’m having £5 each way on your poem and Gingers
    (hedging by bets  )

Looking forward to this race more than the Derby and I’m probably wrong but I have a really strong feeling that Talent might even win the Oaks if Moth meets trouble in running :D

A really strong field and great race ahead.
    Jac :D

Yes hands up Stilvi I did have Moth as my original tip but right at the last gasp I got a strong vibe for Talent and her chances of winning today.

I had argued her case against Secret Gesture all the way through having seen her beat Lady Nouf in the Pretty Polly and I did back all 3 in the race with Moth to win and Talent and Madame Defarge each way.

Don’t see myself as a great tipster or form pundit just back horses that have caught my eye when I have been at my local track Newmarket and couldn’t be happier for Ralph Beckett and the Stallion New Approach who is a particular favourite of mine.

    Good luck for the future.
