I just don’t believe you can say this is a vastly better renewal than previous years looking at it before the race has been run. Maybe I’ll be proved wrong if a Leger or Gold Cup winner comes out of it but only time will tell.

But the main point I was making is that the race was producing top Classic and Gold Cup winners with it being run over 2 miles and so I feel they had no need to reduce it in distance just for the sake of being able to add to the number of Group 2’s they have this week.

Needless to say that I, like many, are not happy with the distance being reduced.

It’s certainly a better race in number of quality runners going in to the race, Charles. Which does not mean the ratings after the race will be any better than previously (obviously nobody can be certain). However what it does mean is there’s a better chance of the overall quality and competitiveness of the race improving.

Those good horses who’ve previously run in the race would have still run in the race had it been 1m6f. Where else are they supposed to go at this time of year? And this is still a real test of stamina for 3 year olds at this time of the season. Any 1m6f three year old race in June tests stamina as much as a 2m race in September. A 2m race in June means very few horses have a chance – reduces competitiveness.

Gone for one off the boards in this one and hoping for a big priced winner with
    Alqamar EW for Charlie Appleby..
Saw him last year run 3rd to Eminent on good to firm going, he didn’t quite handle the uphill finish that day.
All to do today but nice win last time out albeit it on soft

I think they’ll need to up the trip a furlong of this race next year, get it away from the bend.

A very interesting race and well done Stradivarius backers, he looks a nice horse but doubtful about his Leger chances.

A shambles at the start, far, far too soon to the bend. Even Mr Gosden agreed with that sentiment. I’d be surprised if this race was run at the same distance next year.

Yes agreed Ginger & Charles that bend came too quickly.
Wish I’d been there to see Stradivarius in the paddock he certainly stood out on looks.

The Queen is still waiting for a winner as Michael Stoute did a disappearing act for the TV Cameras today.

Looking forward to the final day although will be watching from Newmarket, good luck Charles in the Fantasy Ascot Telegraph Comp, we seem to be having a Big Orange/OOSG moment at the top 😉 Jac

Result of Goodwood Cup has justified the upping of the Queens Vase to Group 2.
Stradivarius winning and Vase 5th Desert Skyline 2nd.
