Well, I suppose it’s because though in principle it’s buying money to bet on Mayweather, a lot can happen, injury-wise, in 5 to 6 weeks, even 2/9, which is what I think I saw, is not necessarily a bargain. It’s why they’re bookmakers, isn’t it.

But the odds of 50/1 Mayweather winning in 59 seconds sound great to me. But I don’t have the time to faff around, trying to put it on. I tried the other day, but even the help offered wasn’t helpful. An outfit called, ‘188bet’ were offering it. I might try again today.

Im(y inexpert)o, Lennox Lewis summarised McGregor’s chance very succinctly. He has ‘mine and Buckley’s chance’, they’d say in NZ.

Where’s the lad who was chuffed to take on three or four other desperados in an alley, and was moving to Croatia with his girl-friend ? Got somewhat bruised, but presumably was lucky to get away with his life !

Wouldn’t punt on this circus with someones else’s money. And if the cost is anything like that in the USA (minimum $90) I wont be watching it either.

Surely, a fair amatueur boxer would beat McGregor. I just read that he’s been knocked out by a sparring partner. And he’s taking on one of the all-time greats in a whole mess of divisions !

Conor’s the champion of champions in his sport, so he has plenty to be proud of, of course. But both sports require different skills, and even differnt strengths. Having habitually had to look for non-boxing opportunities meant that, even if Conor had had the natural speed of punch of Floyd, it would have been blunted by his own specialist, more widely-focused training. It may be, of course, tnat he realised it all along on some level, but was brave enbough to go for the big pay-day, anyway.

To be fair that ended about as well as it could have for all concerned. McGregor has come out with his pride intact (and as you say a hell of a lot richer) and Mayweather did what he was always going to do. Not sure what either sport has gained but they haven’t lost anything either. Really, it was comparable to something like Roger Federer against a squash player, or Ronnie O’Sullivan against a pool champ. Sure, the challenger has it in him to make a bit of a game of it but in the end there’s only one winner.

All in all an interesting experiment that went better than I thought it would but hopefully not the start of something new. Now we can shift our attention to Golovkin vs Canelo, that could be a hell of a fight. Hard to call so from a betting point of view, 6/4 on Canelo could be a spot of value.
