BetVictor’s Charlie McCann runs the rule over Thursday’s cards

BetVictor’s Charlie McCann runs the rule over Thursday’s cards last year’s Scottish National winner Vicente, recently bought privately by Trevor Hemmings, has been the best-backed horse in recent days for the Grand National and was cut from 20s from 33/1 at BetVictor for the Aintree spectacular. The entries, but not weights, came out yesterday for the Topham Chase on Ladies Day and at first glance, my two against the field would be Stellar Notion for Ireland and Warrior’s Tale representing Paul Nicholls. I presented the champion trainer with the prize after Warrior’s Tale jumped superbly to win a BetVictor sponsored race at Newbury earlier in the month and we both nominated the Topham as his next port of call. At Ludlow this afternoon Kerry Lee looks to have found a gilt-edged opportunity for Gino Trail […]

Jack Milner reflects on Cheltenham and digs a few out for Monday’s racing

Jack Milner reflects on Cheltenham and digs a few out for Monday’s racing The Cheltenham Festival was another brilliant week of National Hunt racing with the three novice chase successes of Altior, Yorkhill and Might Bite in particular proving memorable and likely to be competing for Championship honours at next year’s meeting. Might Bite won the RSA Chase despite hanging across the Cheltenham track in the closing stages, and is 4/1 with BetVictor for the King George on Boxing Day at Kempton. King George prices from BetVictor Thistlecrack 5/2 Might Bite 4/1 Sizing John 5/1 Douvan 6/1 Yorkhill 8/1 12/1 Bar The gelding famously fell at the last when clear in the G1 Kauto Star Novices’ Chase in December but will likely head to the track in a bid to atone for that final fence […]

Charlie McCann of BetVictor.com looks at today’s cards

Charlie McCann of BetVictor.com looks at today’s cards Douvan will face a maximum of 14 rivals bidding to maintain his unbeaten record over fences in next week’s Queen Mother Champion Chase at the Cheltenham Festival. The dual festival hero has been sublime thus far this term, extending his unbeaten record to nine over fences, and is the 2/7 favourite bidding to complete a hat-trick of Cheltenham success in the spring, following his efforts in the Supreme Novices Hurdle two years’ ago and his facile Arkle success 12 months ago. He could face stablemates Un De Sceaux and Vroum Vroum Mag with both entered at the five-day stage however, the former is the current 5/2 favourite with BetVictor for the Ryanair Chase 24 hours later, whilst the latter is entered in three races over hurdles at […]

Charlie McCann of BetVictor.com with Tuesday’s best bets

Charlie McCann of BetVictor.com with Tuesday’s best bets Just a week to the start of the Cheltenham Festival and the money on Monday morning came for Neon Wolf (4/1 from 5/1) at BetVictor for Neon Wolf not in the Neptune Novices’ Hurdle (2m 5f) but for the opening Supreme Novices’ Hurdle. Harry Fry insists the ground would need to be soft on the opening day to consider the Supreme and it is possible that it is just punters insuring their Neptune bet given most bookmakers are non runner no bet for the Festival. Top Irish jockey Mark Walsh was also confirmed as the partner for both Yanworth (Champion Hurdle) and Uxizandre (Ryanair Chase) and was immediately cut in the betting from 10s to 8/1 with BetVictor to be the top jockey at the Festival. Soft […]

Jack Milner previews Monday’s cards

Definitely Red was the weekend’s most impressive winner, bolting-up by fifteen lengths in the Grimthorpe Chase at Doncaster. Brian Ellison’s 8yo has long been the apple of his trainer’s eye and after claiming a second competitive handicap chase of the season, is now 14/1 from 20s and 33s to win the biggest one of all. The gelding got a brilliant ride from Danny Cook in the plate, as did The Last Samuri who plugged on to finish second in the closing stages. Last year’s runner-up remains a 16/1 chance with BetVictor to go one better in the Grand National in the spring, and trainer Kim Bailey was reportedly delighted and all roads now leading to Aintree. Grand National prices from BetVictor Vieux Lion Rouge 10/1 Defintly Red 14/1 (from 33s) The Last Samuri 16/1 Blaklion […]
