Charlie McCann is hoping one can dash home on Monday

Charlie McCann is hoping one can dash home on Monday Saturday’s highlight was undoubtedly the brilliant win of Ribchester in the Gp 1 Lockinge Stakes at Newbury. Connections had declared a pacemaker in Toscanini but he missed more than a beat at the start and the 7/4 favourite had to make his own running. To come home the best part of four lengths clear of his field shows how dominant he was and the 2/1 for the Queen Anne was quickly snapped up with BetVictor and the 7/4 currently available looks fair value for the Royal Ascot curtain raiser. Roger Varian has his string in good form and in the 7f Maiden at Redcar he introduces the well-bred debutante Uae Queen (3.10) who cost leading connections 450,000 Gns as a yearling. The stable won the […]

Charlie McCann previews day 3 of Chester’s May Meeting

Charlie McCann previews day 3 of Chester’s May Meeting Cheshire Oaks winner Enable was cut from 16s to 8s for the Oaks in the immediate aftermath of Wednesday’s Chester success and was trimmed again on Thursday morning into 6s with BetVictor after further support. Connections also have impressive Newbury winner Shutter Speed near the top of the fillies’ classic market but the suggestion is that she may go for the French equivalent over 10 furlongs leaving Enable to take in the Oaks. Today’s feature race on the final day of Chester’s May Meeting is the Gp 3 Ormonde Stakes and a chance is taken on Red Verdon (3.35) having his first start since finishing runner up in the Grand Prix de Paris on Bastille Day back in July. The selection doesn’t have the best of […]

Charlie McCann of BetVictor.com highlights some noteworthy bets for Chester Day 2

Charlie McCann of BetVictor.com highlights some noteworthy bets for Chester Day 2 The second Day of the Chester May meeting begins with a valuable eight-runner ten-furlong handicap and the reappearance of Paul Cole’s former Royal Ascot winner Berkshire. The six-year-old is still an entire but his form tailed off towards the end of last season after making all to win at Windsor back in August. A market move for the Cole horse would be significant but the lightly-raced Khairaat (1.50) has won two of his three career starts to date and remains open to significant improvement. His draw in stall one is an obvious plus, champion jockey Jim Crowley is in the plate and Berkshire and/or Sennockian Star should ensure a decent gallop. The selection is 13/8 at BetVictor and he can get favourite backers […]

Charlie McCann of BetVictor with Wednesday’s highlights on the betting front

Charlie McCann of BetVictor with Wednesday’s highlights on the betting front It was announced on Tuesday that no decision would be made on Churchill’s participation in the Derby until after the Chester and probably York Trials over the next ten days. The colt was a good winner of the 2000 Guineas and my immediate reaction when he past the post was he wouldn’t get a mile-and-a-half in a horsebox but the decision does not appear to be that cut and dried. Churchill is 11/4 at BetVictor for the Epsom classic but I certainly wouldn’t be in a rush to back him. The Chester executive have watered the Roodeye ahead of the opening day of their May meeting with the feature the Chester Cup. I hinted earlier in the week that I think Blakeney Point (3.35) […]

Charlie Mccann of BetVictor.com takes us through Tuesday’s best bets

Charlie Mccann of BetVictor.com takes us through Tuesday’s best bets Thursday’s card at Wincanton has been abandoned because of the prevailing firm ground in the West Country but no problems forecast at Chester who stage their big three-day meeting of the year this week with the Chester Cup Wednesday’s highlight. Blakeney Point has crept into the race at the foot of the weights has been given stall one and at 8/1 with BetVictor he is my each way selection given he is a progressive stayer who has won three of his last four including over two miles on the Roodeye back in September. More of Chester later in the week but they go at Ayr today and Poet’s Reward will be fancied to go one better than when runner up at Newcastle over the minimum […]
